About Karl Barth and the Analogia Entis A fascinating new study challenging the classical view of Karl Barth's rejection of the Roman Catholic understanding of analogia entis. Many interpreters argue that Karl Barth's rejection of the Roman Catholic analogia entis was based upon a mistaken interpretation of the principle, and many scholars also contend that late in his career, Barth changed his mind about the analogia entis, either by withdrawing his rejection of it or by adopting some form of it as his own. I imagine he did so because of its potential to obscure the mediating role that belongs to Christ alone. 2015-10-12 · Barth vehemently rejected the Catholic notion of the analogia entis, even to the point of referring to it as “antichrist.” But von Balthasar insisted that Barth misunderstood Catholic teaching about the analogia entis, and so Barth’s vehement rejection of that doctrine risked halting an opportunity for reengagement between Catholics and Protestants.
